Portfolio News: GSBC acquires VZDV

GSBC strengthens its sustainable engineering platform with the addition of VZDV

Global Sustainable Buildings Consultancy (GSBC) has announced the addition of VZDV to its growing platform of specialist consultancies, further strengthening its technical capability and expanding its expertise in the design of high-performance, sustainable buildings across the UK.

The addition of VZDV marks another important step in GSBC’s long-term strategy to bring together market-leading specialist consultancies that share a common vision: delivering technically excellent, sustainable solutions that help clients respond to the climate challenge while creating healthier, more resilient buildings.

Established for more than two decades, VZDV has built an outstanding reputation for delivering innovative mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) engineering design across a diverse range of sectors. Its expertise spans education, healthcare, residential, commercial, leisure and blue light facilities, where its technically rigorous, performance-led approach has supported the delivery of highly efficient buildings throughout the UK and the Channel Islands.

The addition significantly strengthens GSBC’s capability in complex building services engineering while broadening the Group’s experience across emergency services and critical infrastructure projects.

As part of GSBC, VZDV joins a growing family of specialist consultancies including QODA, ESD and TGA. Together, the businesses combine complementary expertise across building services engineering, sustainability, building performance, operational energy, heritage, Passivhaus design and decarbonisation, providing clients with access to a wider network of specialists while preserving the entrepreneurial culture and technical excellence of each consultancy.

Stephen Hawkins, Managing Director of GSBC, said:

“VZDV is an exceptional consultancy with an impressive technical reputation and a culture that closely aligns with our own. Their team brings outstanding expertise in sustainable building services engineering and an enviable track record across a number of strategically important sectors.

“Our ambition is to build the UK’s leading sustainable buildings consultancy by bringing together businesses that are recognised for technical excellence, trusted client relationships and a commitment to delivering better outcomes. VZDV is another important step on that journey, strengthening the expertise available across the Group while creating new opportunities for collaboration, innovation and growth.”

Joining GSBC enables VZDV to retain its identity, leadership and client-focused approach while benefiting from the scale, investment and collaborative opportunities of the wider Group. Clients will continue to work with the same trusted team, now supported by access to a broader range of specialist expertise across sustainability, engineering and building performance.

The addition also creates new opportunities for employees through enhanced knowledge sharing, career development, cross-disciplinary collaboration and access to a wider portfolio of projects across the UK.

Rod Warren, Director at VZDV commented:

“Joining GSBC is a natural next step for our business. From the outset it was clear we shared the same values around technical excellence, long-term client relationships and creating a positive impact through sustainable design.

“Becoming part of the Group gives our people and our clients access to a wider network of expertise while allowing us to continue doing what we do best. We’re excited about the opportunities this creates for collaboration and future growth.”

This latest addition acquisition reinforces GSBC’s commitment to building a market-leading group of specialist consultancies capable of supporting clients through the increasingly complex challenges of decarbonisation, building performance and sustainable development.

As the Group continues to grow, its focus remains unchanged: combining the agility and specialist expertise of independent consultancies with the resilience, investment and collaborative strength of a larger organisation to deliver exceptional outcomes for clients across the built environment.
